Kia has joined Hyundai by recruiting a high-profile actor for its Super Bowl 50 commercial, drawing on the expertise of Christopher Walken.
The 60-second spot, featured below in an extended version, promotes the brand new 2016 Kia Optima in a very unique way; by contrasting it to a pair of beige-coloured socks.
The ad opens with a husband entering his “Walken Closet” filled with nothing but beige. Christopher Walken then delivers a speech about people wearing beige socks wanting to blend in as opposed to those who wear more exciting socks, comparing the new Optima to the “world’s most exciting pair of socks”.
The commercial was created by David&Goliath who’s chief creative officer said “There are a few special moments in one’s career. Those times when you find yourself in an interesting place, making something you never thought possible, with someone you never thought you’d meet. Being in a closet with Christopher Walken and 600 pairs of beige slacks was definitely one of those moments.”
Each 60-second Super Bowl 50 commercial is said to have cost around $10 million before actor and production fees.
