Maranello wanted to honor one of its most important markets, but instead of premiering a customized vehicle, decided to put together a video instead.
Deserto Rosso, which is Italian for Red Desert, is meant to evoke both the crimson dunes of Arabia’s deepest deserts and Ferrari’s signature color.
Filmed in the deserts surrounding the Liwa Oasis, home to some of the highest sand dunes in the world, it depicts two California Ts navigating the terrain of the mystical “Rub’ al Khali” (“Empty Quarter”).
Besides honoring the Middle East and showcasing the breathtaking beauty of the desert environment, the footage also highlights the cars’ elegance and sportiness. Ferrari says it’s a natural habitat for the California T and, given that it’s more of a GT, it’s probably right.
