Citroen is preparing for the launch of its new large saloon that will being manufactured by the Dongfeng-PSA joint venture in China.

According to Car News China, the company has already started pre-production of the new C6, which will be available solely in the local market.

Codenamed X81, the new C6 will be underpinned by PSA’s EMP2 platform. Initially, it will come with a number of turbocharged 1.8-liter and 2.0-liter engines and there’s also a possibility of a hybrid variant being added to the lineup after production begins in earnest.

Design inspiration for the car is said to have come from the 2010 Metropolis concept. The design will be somewhat diluted for production and sit atop a shorter wheelbase.

If the report is accurate, we’ll see the new C6 in concept guise at April’s Beijing Auto Show before the road-going model debuts in September, with sales set to commence before the end of 2016.
