Debuting at the ongoing Chicago Auto Show is this; the special 4×4 Off-Road Package for the Ram 2500 pickup.
The package aims to rival the FX4 and ZL1 packages offered by Ford and Chevrolet respectively and includes all the usual upgrades to make it more capable off the beaten track.
The biggest mechanical upgrade is the installation of Bilstein monotube shocks as well as a limited-slip differential as standard. Additionally, the package includes a set of 18-inch Firestone on/off-road tires as standard and can be optioned with wider 285 mm off-road tires. A skid plate has also been installed to prevent underbody damage.
Further aiding in the car’s off-road capabilities is the same hill decent control system as the Power Wagon, enabling drivers to better control their speed down steep hills without the need to use the throttle or brake pedals.
The package is then completed with a large ‘4×4 OFF ROAD’ decal on the rear corner of the bed.
According to the head of Ram Bob Hegbloom, “Truck customers require a wide range of off-road capability options and Ram trucks are designed and engineered for the full spectrum. Anyone who spends most days on the outskirts of a job site or the weekend on the shore of a favorite fishing hole will benefit from the standard features on our new Ram 2500 4×4 Off-road Package.”
