Bringing together state-of-the-art technology and avant-garde design, the new DS E-Tense was presented over the web ahead of its Geneva Motor Show debut next Tuesday.
DS Automobiles states that the show car, which is 4.72 m long, 2.08 m wide and 1.29 m tall, draws its power from a 402 HP and 516 Nm (381lb-ft) of torque electric motor, which allows a 0-100 km/h (62 mph) sprint made in 4.5 seconds and a top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph).
Sending juice to the electric powertrain is a lithium-ion battery, fitted under the vehicle’s monocoque carbon fiber chassis, that provides a total range of up to 360 km (224 miles) in the urban cycle or 310 km (193 miles) mixed.
The E-Tense is a GT with a sculpted and aerodynamic design that echoes the styling of the Divine DS study. Motorsport influences can be seen at the rear, where there is no windscreen, as it was replaced by digital rearview technology, while the central rear foglight is similar to a Formula racing car.
There are also roof-mounted indicators inspired from the 1955 DS and LED taillights. At the other end, there are active LED daytime running lights, which can rotate 180 degrees and will probably be used on future DS vehicles.
DS says it took 800 hours to design, test and produce the interior, which benefits from unique sweeping dashboard structure flowing forward to create the mount for the central touchscreen
The manufacturer has joined forces with Moynat to design a helmet harness, with BRM Chronographers for a watch that can be worn on the wrist of affixed to the car’s central console, and with Focal for a premium audio system.
