Queen Elizabeth II would probably sign up to get the first one that rolls off the assembly line, but the first SUV from Rolls Royce is not yet available for those with extra deep pockets.
Maintaining that boxy and yet elegant shape found on the rest of the vehicles in the manufacturer’s lineup, in this rendering at least, the Rolls-Royce SUV has the Bentley Bentayga in mind as its main rival.
The Rolls-Royce Cullinan, which is its official codename, as a reference to the largest gem-quality diamond ever found, will reportedly go on sale in 2018, using a new aluminum space-frame architecture that will eventually underpin all future Rolls-Royce vehicles.
At first, the SUV is believed to carry a modified version of the Phantom’s 6.8-liter V12 engine, which will send power to all four wheels. Reports suggest that the Cullinan engine lineup will be joined by a plug-in hybrid too.
