After catching the next-gen Audi A5 in Coupe, Cabrio & S5 guise on several occasions, it was about time for the more practical Sportback version to come up for air.
Thankfully, our spy photographers are always on the lookout, which means that if you’ve got four wheels and are wearing camouflage, you’re getting scooped.
Now, getting a better look at the 2017 A5 Sportback is important for several reasons. First, it’s another car that’s based on the MLB platform, not unlike the all-new A4. Second, as a Sportback version, the A5 can continue to put up a fight against BMW‘s 4-Series Gran Coupe, and that’s pretty relevant for people who need more than just a Coupe, for practical reasons.
Thanks to these images, we’re also getting a better look at the rear taillight LED design, where it’s now obvious that it’s probably identical to what the all-new A4 has going on for it, or nearly identical – as the smaller light strip at the bottom is either not visible or non-existent in the A5. Otherwise, the exterior design should be pretty straight-forward, with an A4-like wider front grille, similar spoilers and with plenty of power-units being passed around between the two.
Inside, we’re not expecting any surprises, especially since we’ve already seen the semi-camouflaged interior (they only bothered to cover up the badge on the steering wheel) and everything looks like it does in the A4.
Bottom line though, we will have to wait until this year’s Paris Motor Show (or close to it) in order to see if common sense and renderings have got everything right regarding the 2017 Audi A5.
