While images of Suzuki’s next generation Swift leaked out last week, well ahead of the subcompact hatchback’s market launch next year, this is the actually the first time we’ve caught a prototype of the car testing out in public.
The car is heavily masked, but its silhouette and parts of it that are not camouflaged like the positioning of the rear door handles, hidden in the upper corners of the rear windows, match what we saw in the leaked renders.
Compared to the current Swift, the new model will have a more sculpted body with friskier detailing, including black accents on the C-pillar giving the illusion of a floating roofline, and a more aggressively styled front end with a larger single frame grille extending to the lower part of the bumper.
In the aforementioned sketches, we also got a look at the interior that sported a minimalist design with a twin binnacle instrument panel and a large infotainment screen on the center console.
Beyond the regular Swift pictured here that will likely get power from Suzuki’s new generation Boosterjet turbocharged petrol engines, including the 110hp 1.0-liter unit from the Baleno, a higher-performance Sport model is pegged for late next year, possibly powered by the same or an upgraded version of the Vitara’s 138hp (140PS) 1.4L turbo.
