It’s been seven months since we last heard about a possible Aston Martin – Red Bull collaboration, but the British carmaker just announced plans to create a next-gen “hypercar” together with the Austrian energy drink company.
Naturally, the car will be developed and constructed in partnership with Red Bull’s Formula 1 team, Red Bull Racing, and it will see the involvement of the – you guessed it – group’s Chief Technical Officer, Adrian Newey, and Aston Martin’s Chief Creative Officer, Marek Reichman.
Codenamed “Project AM-RB 001”, Aston says the new car will represent the ultimate blend of cutting edge F1 technology and Aston Martin’s signature sports car design. Nothing surprising (and out of the ordinary), considering that one of the most talented and successful Formula 1 designer of all time and Aston’s design chief since 2005 will combine forces to create it.
To top it off, the affiliation with Red Bull racing will also grant Aston Martin access to “the world’s best” aerodynamicists, composite experts and manufacturing masters, although both companies will offer their best capabilities in order to materialize the machine.
“Formula One offers the ultimate global stage to build wider awareness of the Aston Martin brand. However, this partnership will deliver even more than that when the hypercar that Aston Martin and Adrian Newey are in the process of developing hits the road. Between Q by Aston Martin Advanced, Red Bull Advanced Technologies and project partner AF Racing AG, we are going to create a car that will excite and stir the imaginations of the car designers of the future and a global audience of sports car enthusiasts”, said Andy Palmer, Aston Martin CEO.
Details are scarce for now, but rumors say the car will be built in a very limited number by Aston’s Q division, and it will have a mid-engine layout.
