Audi To Bring Quattro Spyder & Avus Quattro Concepts At Techno Classica

Audi will bring some of its most iconic concepts at this year’s Techno Classica in Essen.

Concepts like the iconic Quattro Spyder and the Avus Quattro will be there, with Audi also bringing out the mid-engined Group S rally prototype for a rare appearance.

The first two mid-engined prototypes were revealed in 1991 in Frankfurt and Tokyo motorshows respectively, showing Audi’s intentions to offer a supercar. The Quattro Spyder caused such a sensation with its near-production looks, driving people into placing their pre-orders by the thousands.

Unfortunately Audi wasn’t able to meet the suggested price of 100,000 German marks and the 1,100kg aluminum-bodied supercar remained a prototype.

As for the Audi Group S rally car, this was supposed to be the successor of the ur-Quattro, intended to race at the 1987 championship. The car features a tubular steel frame with a plastic body on top and a turbocharged mid-mounted engine. After the elimination of the Group B and the planned Group S, Audi decided to withdraw from rallying altogether.

The Techno Classica will take place as every year in Essen, Germany and is expected to attract 190,000 visitors from April 6 to 10.
