Fresh news from BMW reveal its plans to build a three-row SUV, which will be called X7.
Confirmed by Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW AG, Harald Kruger, during the firm’s annual press conference, the enormous three-seater SUV will sit at the top end of BMW’s portfolio: “We will be broadening our model range with the BMW X7. We are also taking an in-depth look at the additional potential of this highly attractive segment“, Kruger said.
Hiding under the covers in its first teaser, shared by IAB, the new X7 will be significantly larger than the X5 and it is believed to share the same rear-wheel drive platform with the sixth generation of the 7-Series. However, it will eventually overshadow the flagship sedan in terms of technology and will become the most luxurious BMW ever.
It will be reportedly manufactured at the Spartanburg facility and offered with a wide range of gasoline and diesel powertrains, which might include V6s, V8s and even a V12. Since it should be more luxurious than the 7-Series, four-pot mills might not be considered, but the lineup could be completed by a plug-in hybrid.
Those interested in BMW’s gargantuan-style SUV will have to wait a few years to get their hands on one, as the X7 is believed to not hit the market before 2019, according to Ludwig Willisch, CEO of BMW in North America.
