Warner Bros studios have secured the rights of the Cannonball Run franchise with Etan Cohen set to write and direct the relaunch of the iconic film.
Andre Morgan and Alan Gasmer are going to be the producers of the rebooted film with director Cohen having penned ‘Men In Black 3’ and more recently ‘Get Hard’, which directed also.
As you could imagine there is very little information about where the studios want to take the franchise which originally revolved around the illegal cross-country race, bringing several exotics to our screens and one of the most iconic movie openings in the history, involving a Lamborghini Countach.
Burt Reynolds, Frank Sinatra, Roger Moore, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr. and Dom DeLuise are just few of the names that starred in the now-classic movies, with the first one coming out in 1981 and the sequel in 1984. The third installment was released in 1989.
Overall, the Cannonball Run movies generated a huge international interest about the legendary original races and to this day, people are still running their own races to beat the record runs established back then.
Exciting news for every petrolhead indeed.
