Techrules, a new China-based automotive research and development company dedicated to the innovation of new energy technologies, is making its global debut at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show.

The company has developed an all-new patent-protected series hybrid powertrain technology, called the Turbine-Recharging Electric Vehicle (TREV) system, that combines experience of aviation and electric vehicles technologies with several technical innovations in order to deliver “unprecedented levels of efficiency and performance and and ultra-low environmental impact” – as the company states. Sounds too good to be true? Wait till you hear the specs, then.

TREV is basically a range extender system that uses a micro-turbine to generate electricity which in turn charges a battery pack that drive the wheels. The concepts (AT96 TREV and GT96 TREV) presented at the Swiss motor show represent the first step towards production of China’s first electric hypercar and they’re both based on this system.

Techrules claims that the powertrain produces 1,030 bhp and has an autonomy -wait for it- well over 2000 km (1,200 miles), all this while going from 0 to 100 km/h (62mph) in 2.5 seconds, all the way to a restricted top speed of 350 km/h (218mph). Furthermore, under plug-in operation, it apparently achieves a fuel consumption of of just 0.18 l/100 km (1,569 mpg).

The company plans to begin series production of a low-volume supercar within a couple of years, concentrating on volume city cars afterwards.
