Lotus will reportedly introduce an entry-level version of the Evora in the United States.
The announcement was made by the brand’s CEO, Jean-Marc Gales, who recently spoken to AutoNews: “Over a five-year period in the US, we have to show a 3 percent per year reduction in carbon dioxide emissions. One option is the remove the supercharger.”
Gales said he prefers to use a naturally aspirated version of the Toyota-sourced 3.5-liter V6 from adding a 2-liter turbocharged four-pot mill under the hood of the Evora, giving McLaren’s example: “I don’t believe a four-cylinder fits there. We’ll do what McLaren does with the 570S by fitting an engine that already fits into the car“, he added, referring to the 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8 borrowed from the 650S, in a detuned version.
The British sports car will relaunch across the States from May and the company expects to sell approximately 400 units in the country each year. This seems like a viable target, especially since Lotus claims that 250 orders have been already received. The Evora Coupe will be followed by a roadster version, which should be launched in 2017.
