The Texan tuner did it again, making the new 2016 Chevrolet Camaro SS to blow past the 200mph (320km/h) barrier thanks to their upgrade package.

The now-751hp Camaro SS reached a top speed of 202.1mph (325.2 km/h) with professional driver Brian Smith on the wheel, at the Continental Tire Proving Grounds in Texas.

Increasing the power from the factory 455hp to over 750hp required the company’s HPE600 naturally-aspirated engine upgrade which includes CNC ported cylinder heads, camshaft and valvetrain upgrades, new headers and catalytic converters and a high-flow intake manifold among others.

The net result is 605hp at 6500rpm and in order to get the power up to 751hp, Hennessey added a 146hp nitrous-oxide kit.

“Last year we built and tested one of our specially-prepared Ford Mustangs to over 200 mph,” said John Hennessey. “So it just seemed natural to take the latest Gen 6 Camaro SS and try to push the boundaries of performance. In this case, we felt like breaking 200 mph would be a great way to validate our 2016 Camaro SS performance upgrade program.”
