If you thought Tesla Model X’s falcon doors were a treat, wait to you see Hyundai’s recently trademarked plan.
It looks like the Korean car manufacturer wants to take camping to a whole new level, acknowledging that this sort of activity has increased in popularity, with individuals aiming to take the comfort of their own home into the “wild”. And, in order to carry all their stuff back and forward, a vehicle with sufficient space and convenient loading is required, right? Enter the “gullwing door with slide door” patent.
The gullwing door in Hyundai’s idea stretches from the front door to the rear of the car, exposing the vehicle’s cargo area and seating arrangement for an easy access. The car maker knows such a solution can become inconvenient in daily usage (i.e. – in the parking lot), that’s why the entire system comes equipped with a normal sliding door that can be opened and closed just like on a standard minivan.
However, even if the car maker filled this interesting patent, that doesn’t necessarily mean it will use it. A real world application would require seems implausible (for now) from a modern safety standpoint, as a production vehicle has to comply to some standards, but we could see the idea materialized in an upcoming concept car.
