Alfa Romeo plans to reveal its first ever SUV, the Stelvio, this autumn, possibly at the LA Auto Show.

The news comes from Motoring, quoting the Alfa and Maserati boss, Harald Wester, who said it will be introduced in late fall.

“We announced – and this is going to be presented I would say in one of the important auto shows in Autumn – a more compact SUV for Alfa Romeo and this is also part of the answer”,  said Wester.

While the Paris Auto Show also kicks off in the fall, the website believes that Wester was referring to the Los Angeles event.

Alfa Romeo’s Stelvio, the name of which was confirmed by Sergio Marchionne last month, will be underpinned by the same platform as the Giulia sedan. This means it will get the same set of turbocharged four-pot diesels and four-cylinder and V6  engines as the Giulia, with rear-wheel drive to likely be standard, while more expensive versions will be equipped with four-wheel drive. The range may also include a high-performance Quadrifoglio Verde model.
