If you’re into executive wagons, you’re not exactly spoiled for choice these days, so Volvo’s re-imagined entry in the segment with the new V90 is a welcome addition.
While Volvo revealed the S90 sedan first, the V90 estate that made its world premiere today at the Geneva Motor Show today will be the bread-winner of the duo, building on the brand’s legacy (and stronghold) in the segment.
Unlike the boxy and rather subdued V70s of the past three generations and despite the fact that it’s actually longer at 4,936mm and wider at 1,890mm, the new V90 looks way cleaner, sleeker and more dynamic. In fact, we think that the rear end that takes inspiration from Volvo’s 2014 Concept Estate gives it a more balanced and elegant appearance than its S90 sedan sibling.
Of course, there’s a price to pay for that sloping tailgate, as the V90’s total luggage capacity of 1,526 liters trails behind not only the Mercedes-Benz E-Class Wagon’s (massive) 1,850-1,950 liters (depending on the model) and the BMW 5-Series Touring’s 1,670 liters, but also the older V70’s 1,600 liters.
Elsewhere, it shares the same interior, tech / safety features and powertrain options that include an assortment of turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline, diesel and plug-in hybrid engines, as the S90 sedan.
Pricing for the new V90 will be announced closer to launch later this year.
