According to Mercedes’ chief engineer for the GLC, CLS and the E-Class, Michael Kelz, it wouldn’t be difficult at all to turn the GLC Coupe into a Cabriolet.

Kelz commented to Autocar that “it would be fun and it’s actually not that much of an engineering challenge”.

If you were having trouble imagining how a soft-top version of the GLC Coupe would eventually look like, this rendering might help you better picture a finalized product.

For Mercedes to move against Land Rover and their RR Evoque Cabrio would be a pretty major step and one that the German automaker will not take lightly, which is why this project is simply being considered as an option instead of in development.

However, with the open-top Evoque becoming incrasingly popular, other premium car manufacturers are undoubtedly keeping an eye out on how and if the convertible SUV segment will continue to expand.

Automotive niches: looks like one is born every day, doesn’t it? Especially when it comes to crossovers, where the buyers are willing to embrace the next fad in droves.
