Ford has confirmed that Ken Block’s Hoonigan Racing Division team will field two factory-supported 2016 Focus RS race cars in this year’s FIA World Rallycross Championship (WRX).
The cars themselves will feature all-wheel drive, a new 600 HP EcoBoost engine and an amazing 0-60 mph (96 km/h) time of less than 2 seconds.
Aside from its power output, the Focus RS Rallycross also boasts 900 Nm (663 lb-ft) of peak torque, and comes with an FIA-spec roll cage, custom body, bespoke underbody protection, 6-speed sequential gearbox, SLA-type suspension, Brembo 4-pot calipers, 17″ WRX wheels and WRX spec AVON race tires.
According to Ford’s motorsports engineering manager Mark Rushbrook, his team went about creating the Focus RS Rallycross by “dedicating the same level of cutting-edge tools, technical resources and engineering know-how from our Le Mans GT and NASCAR programs.”
Rushbrook also said that “Ken [Block], Andreas Bakkerud and Hoonigan Racing give us insight from the competition and driver perspective,” with Block and Bakkerud being the ones who will eventually get behind the wheel of the car.
The Focus RS Rallycross is set to debut at the FIA World Rallycross event in Portugal, April 15-17, as further information about the car and its development will be available ahead of the race.
