Offering increased practicality and a big bump in storage space over its hatchback brethren, Renault’s new Megane Sport Tourer celebrated its world premiere at the Geneva Motor Show.
The new model retains the same 2,712mm wheelbase as the hatchback, but is longer at 4,626mm, with the extended rear overhang boosting its regular luggage capacity from 434 liters to 580 liters (equal to 521dm3 VDA). It also boasts the longest load area in its segment, which includes the Ford Focus Wagon and VW Golf Estate, at 2.77m in length.
It comes equipped with Renault’s Easy Folding system that enables simple unlocking and automatic folding of the 60/40-split rear seat, as well as added lateral storage bins and a 50dm3 VDA hidden compartment beneath the floor.
Elsewhere, it inherits the same range of engines as the hatch, including 1.2 and 1.6-liter turbocharged petrols, and 1.5 and 1.6-liter turbodiesels.
Sitting at the top of the range is the Megane Sport Tourer GT, available with either a 163hp diesel or a 202hp petrol paired exclusively to a dual-clutch automatic transmission, and featuring a firmer suspension and Renault’s 4CONTROL technology with four-wheel steering.
The GT model gets additional styling cues including honeycomb front grilles, bespoke bumpers, 18-inch alloy wheels, chromed exhaust tailpipe, front bucket seats, sports steering wheel and different trims inside.
Sales of the Megane wagon will begin in the summer.
