A new report claims that the next iteration of the Renault Megane RS will come with a new box of tricks to compete against the Ford Focus RS.
Quoting a Renault insider, AutoExpress writes that the next-gen Renault Megane RS will be offered exclusively in a five-door body style, unlike its predecessor, which only comes as a coupe.
Furthermore, its 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo engine is expected to produce in excess of 300 HP, channeled to all four corners through either a standard six-speed manual transmission or an optional EDC dual-clutch automatic, borrowed from the Clio RS, while the Megane GT should lend its rear-wheel steering.
“When you have torque vectoring, rear-wheel steering and four-wheel drive, and you want your car to behave in a certain way, you have to have a global chassis control system. When you see cars like the Focus RS, you can feel that Renaultsport will have to do something about it“, the insider said.
The same report estimates that it will cost around £30,000 ($43,180), in the UK, making it significantly more expensive than the current Megane RS 275, which can be had from £25,935 ($37,330). It remains unclear when the new generation of the hot hatch will hit the market, but it should appear over the next two years.
