Unlike most of its competitors, a convertible version of the GT-R was never considered.
Therefore Nissan has no open-top model to rival the likes of the Porsche 911, Audi R8, BMW M3 etc. OK, neither does Mercedes, though the AMG GT is expected to lose its top sooner or later.
The Godzilla has always been sufficiently exciting as a coupe. The updated model launched at the NY Auto Show is even more of a weapon on the track, with 20 extra horses, bringing the total to 565 HP, and a host of other modifications. Hard to complain, isn’t it?
Getting badge snobbery out of the way is one thing; providing al fresco motoring to those who insist on one is simply not possible.
After a decade in production and with its, probably hybrid, successor being already under development, this won’t change – at least in the R35. One can always take on the “what if?” scenario, though, and that’s exactly what this is. The obvious question is, would there be any takers for a GT-R that looked like this?
