Surrounded by glass panels and taking center stage at Dodge’s stand in New York, the Viper ACR won’t allow any curious hands to touch its body.

If you were hoping that the high-performance machine brings a tweaked exterior or perhaps some extra oomph, then you will be disappointed because, aside from its trendy white finish, it remains the same as the one last seen in late 2015 at the Los Angeles Auto Show.

To refresh your memory, the Viper ACR arrived at dealerships in the third quarter of 2015, with an MSRP of 117,895, excluding destination and the gas guzzler tax. No less than 645 HP and 600 pound-feet (813 Nm) of torque are supplied by the same 8.4-liter naturally aspirated V10 engine used in the standard version, while exclusive equipment includes Carbon Ceramic Matrix Brembo brakes, unique track suspension, special tires and aerodynamic treatment.

The future looks uncertain for the current Viper, as it is expected to be axed after the 2016 MY, since it no longer complies with the new federal safety standards. However, the story won’t end here, because a successor is in the cards, and it should be better than ever, using a new platform from FCA that might be signed by the alliance’s biggest names, Ferrari included.
