Nine-times WRC champion Sebastian Loeb is set to drive for Team Peugeot-Hansen during this season’s FIA World Rallycross Championship.
The two-car squad will feature Loeb and Timmy Hansen, both driving the 550 HP 208 WRX Supercar. By moving to rallycross, Red Bull’s 42-year old star is looking to cement his status as the king of off-road driving, after stringing together more rally championships and wins than any other driver.
“I’m very excited by this opportunity to participate in the full Rallycross Championship for the first time,” said Loeb. “Over the years I have been fortunate to participate in some truly amazing racing, but rallycross – with the sheer power and the competiveness of the PEUGEOT208 WRX,plus the intense nature of the competition – will be something very special. The car and the strategy for this type of racing is completely new to me, so I have a lot to learn, but I hope I can be competitive pretty soon.”
Unlike Loeb, Timmy Hansen has already won a rallycross gold medal back in 2012 at the X-Games in California, which basically means Sebastian is technically a rookie compared to him – though the two should form a formidable duo once Loeb adapts to his new environment.
As if these two drivers teaming up wasn’t exciting enough for motorsports fans, Red Bull went and filmed them while out on a challenging ice track in Are, Sweden and…well, we’ll let you judge the footage for yourselves.
