Audi A3’s mid-life update is getting closer to production, with our spies catching the petrol-electric hybrid E-Tron during the final development stages.

It will be one of the least surprising reveals, as our spies not only have they already caught the regular hatch, cabrio and sedan versions in the act, but also because the RS3 sedan was also leaked during a corporate event in the US.

Like the VW GTE plug-in hybrid models share their C-shaped LED daytime running light, Audi’s E-Tron models will get a new trademark DRL in the shape of a reverse ‘L’ to distinguish them from the non-hybrid ones.

Other than that, it’s business as usual with this facelift, as the A3 will receive a similar nose-job with the new A4, featuring a new bumper, the brand’s latest hexagonal front grille and a set of headlights with that crease on their lower part. The rear lights will get a different lighting pattern and the rear bumper will also get reshaped.

As for the E-Tron, Audi will probably improve the current model’s electric range (50km or 31 miles) as well as tweak the petrol engine for better fuel efficiency. Expect the usual interior upgrades as well, with more on-board tech and new trims to choose from.
