With a lineup made of hatchbacks, sedans and station wagons, Skoda apparently has it all, except for crossovers, and since this is what sells, the Czech brand will move along into a new era.
It may not have a midsize SUV right now, but that will change starting next fall, when the production version of the VisionS Concept pictured here shows its face for the first time.
Rumored to be named ‘Kodiak’, the new model will be based on the VW Group’s MQB platform, offering a choice of diesel and petrol engines and, probably a hybrid powertrain too.
In concept guise, the VisionS offers room for six passengers inside a boxy-looking body, with motivation provide by a plug-in hybrid powertrain.
The latter combines a 1.4-liter TSI petrol delivering 156 PS (154 HP) and 250 Nm (184lb-ft) with two electric motors, one integrated into the 6-speed DSG gearbox that adds 55 PS (54 HP) and 220 Nm (162lb-ft) of torque for the front axle, and another producing 116 PS (114 HP) and 270 Nm (199lb-ft) for the rear axle.
Total output stands at 225 PS (222 HP) and it allows the concept to go from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 7.4 seconds and up to a top speed of 200 km/h (124 mph), while consuming just 1.9 L/100 km and emitting 45 g/km of CO2.
In electric mode, it has a range of 50 km (31 miles) at most, but when the petrol engine kicks in, this rises to 1,000 km (621 miles).
