Being perhaps the most anticipated Italian mass-produced model after the Alfa Romeo Giulia, Abarth’s version of the Fiat 124 Spider will make its US debut at the New York Auto Show.
Powered by a turbocharged 160hp 1.4-litre MultiAir petrol engine, the Fiat 124 Spider Elaborazione Abarth offers one of the best power-to-weight ratios in its segment.
The hardcore version of Fiat’s little roadster will be available either with a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic gearbox with paddle shifters, although we don’t know why anyone would opt for the latter option in a model like this.
Other new features include a new Sport driving mode, a mechanical limited-slip differential, a different suspension setup with mono-tube Bilstein front and rear shock absorbers and bigger brakes from Brembo.
The new Fiat 124 Spider will be available in five different color options -Bianco Gelato (White Clear Coat), Rosso Passione (Red Clear Coat), Nero Cinema (Jet Black Metallic), Grigio Argento (Gray Metallic) and tri-coat Bianco Perla (Crystal White Pearl). A set of optional Recaro seats dressed in leather and Alcantara will also be available.
“Our new Fiat 124 Spider is an iconic roadster that combines classic Italian styling with modern performance and technology,” said Olivier Francois, Head of FIAT Brand, FCA – Global. “The addition of our new 2017 Fiat 124 Spider Elaborazione Abarth further enhances the driving experience and offers yet another head-turning, fun-to-drive vehicle to our customers.”
The first units of the regular Fiat 124 Spider are expected to arrive during the summer with the launch of a limited edition called ‘Prima Edizione Lusso’, featuring an exclusive color combination. The Abarth version will follow on a later date.
Note: The red 124 Spider is the US-spec Abarth, while the white one is the European market model
