As the countdown to the 2016 NY Auto Show continues, Hyundai has announced its local premiere.

Originally unveiled on the Old Continent earlier this month, the Ioniq will be slightly tweaked for the US market, but before Hyundai drops the covers off its body, the teasing game has begun.

The manufacturer hasn’t released any details on the US version of the Ioniq, at the time, but we bet it will be offered in the same three variants as its European sibling, the Hybrid, Plug-in Hybrid and Electric.

In Europe, the Hybrid and PHEV are sharing the same 1.6-liter GDI petrol engine and six-speed dual-clutch gearbox. The first one has a 43 HP electric motor, while the second adds a more powerful 60 HP electric unit and a larger 8.9 kWh battery pack.

The “greenest” version of the Ioniq, the Electric, employs a 118 HP and 217 lb-ft (295 Nm) of torque electric motor coupled to a single-speed transmission, and a 28 kWh lithium-ion battery. Full info on the US-spec Ioniq will be announced tomorrow, at the show’s opening day.
