Audi City in Piccadilly was the venue that hosted the debut of the all-new R8 Spyder, with the new generation model lauded as a milestone for the German automaker.

UK Customers will be able to order the R8 Spyder starting late spring, though they’ll need to wait until the end of the year in order to take delivery of their V10-powered 197 mph (317 km/h) machine.

Separating the Spyder from its Coupe sibling is of course the fully-automated lightweight cloth roof that opens and closes at speeds of up to 31 mph (50 km/h) in just 20 seconds.

The V10 model (sans the ‘Plus’) is still capable of putting down 540 PS and 540 Nm (398 lb-ft) of torque, delivering strong performance across the entire rev range. A simple 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) sprint takes just 3.6 seconds, while the top speed is just 2 mph (3 km/h) lower than that of the Coupe version.

As for other important features, we can certainly count the newly designed quattro system with the electro-hydraulically activated multi-plate clutch, the 7-speed S tronic dual-clutch gearbox, the fully digital virtual cockpit, Bang & Olufsen sound system, iOS & Android compatibility and of course the LED headlights with newly developed laser technology.
