It’s been a while since we’ve heard something remotely new about Apple’s future vehicle, but the latest info suggests its development is ongoing.
It appears that the Cupertino-based company even sources the best professionals in the business, with reports saying that it hired Tesla Vice President of Vehicle Engineering and former Aston Martin Chief Engineer Chris Porritt to work exclusively on “special projects”.
Of course, “special projects” is just another way of saying “Apple car”, which will benefit from Porritt’s expertise. Throughout his career, he was credited for working at on some of Aston’s most iconic models including the One-77, the V12 Zagato and the DB9. His work at Tesla reportedly consisted on developing the Model S and X platforms, as well as the Model 3 chassis.
This comes as no surprise, as multiple reports indicated the tech giant was scouting former Tesla employees for some time now – although, to be fair, the man left the electric car company in late 2015. Either way, Elon Musk had already lashed out at Apple for its practice.
“They have hired people we’ve fired. We always jokingly call Apple the ‘Tesla Graveyard.’ If you don’t make it at Tesla, you go work at Apple”
Sour grapes? We’ll see when the “iCar” comes out; until then, Musk has the right to gloat all he wants, especially after the Model 3 and the unprecedented reception it got. For a car, that is, since for Apple that’s a routine with every new iPhone. Funny how things turn out sometimes, isn’t it?
