VW Group’s diesel-powered cars remain in stop-sale mode in the United States, but this hasn’t affected its premium brands.
With a total of 18,392 units sold last month, up 7.5 percent compared to 2015, Audi has reported its 63rd consecutive record set for March. Sales were boosted by the introduction of the new A4 and the rising popularity of SUVs in the States. The best-seller was the Q5, with 3,728 units, followed by the A4 and A3, with 3,226 and 3,173 units, respectively.
The brand’s year-to-date sales have witnessed a 4.6 percent increase, from 40,098 vehicles sold in the first quarter of 2015 to 41,960 delivered from January to March, this year. The top seller was,once again, the Q5, with 8,840 examples, followed by the A3 (7,504), the Q7 (6,993) and the A4 (6,378 units).
Porsche Cars North America has delivered 4,323 units of the Boxster/Cayman, 911 and 918, Cayenne, Panamera and Macan last month, compared to 4,291 vehicles in March, 2015. The Cayenne was at the with 1,294 examples, closely followed by the Macan, with 1,123 units. In the first three months of the year, the automaker has posted a 7.1 percent growth, for a total of 12,238 units.
Volkswagen’s deliveries, however, were down by 10.36 percent, with 26,914 cars sold. The Jetta Sedan was the vehicle of choice, as it accounted for almost half of the brand’s sales, followed by the Passat, Golf family and Tiguan. In the first quarter of 2016, the automaker’s sales plunged by 12.5 percent to 69,314 vehicles.
