The 2016 Ford F-150 has earned a Top Safety Pick award, from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).
The blue oval’s large pickup truck was the only one in the group to receive a Good rating in the small overlap crash test after Ford has improved its structural components for the 2016 model year.
In order to manage forces in the small overlap crash test, Ford created a system of innovations that work together to help protect the driver, such as the nylon hinge pillar reinforcements that save weight, working in conjunction with the specially designed wheel blockers that control crash forces while providing extra safety.
Ford’s large pickup truck, tested in the SuperCrew and SuperCab configurations, has received a Good overall rating, but in order for a vehicle to score a Top Safety Pick Plus award, it must earn Good on all crash tests, along with Advanced or Superior in the forward collision prevention test.
When it comes to the latest large pickup trucks crash tested by the IIHS, the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Double Cab, GMC Sierra 1500 Double Cab and Toyota Tundra Double Cab have received an Acceptable rating, while the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Crew Cab, GMC Sierra 1500 Crew Cab, Toyota Tundra CrewMax and Ram 1500, in Crew Cab and Quad Cab versions, scored Marginal.
