We don’t know if Hongqi has raised any red flags (pun intended) yet over at Land Rover central with their LS5, but China’s oldest and most luxurious car company has given their full-size SUV prototype a mild makeover at the Beijing auto show.
First seen a year ago at the 2015 Shanghai Auto Show, the 5,198mm long (204.6 in.), 2,098mm (82.6 in.) wide and 1,890mm (74.4 in.) tall LS5 is edging closer to production, with Hongqi, which in Chinese, translates to “red flag”, a communist symbol, polishing out some new exterior and interior details.
In Beijing, the LS5 was presented with new exterior mirrors, more intricately designed alloy wheels, beefier side bars, and a new tailgate and rear bumper on the outside, while inside, it gained new wood trim accents spanning across the dash and a huge touchscreen display for the infotainment system on the center console.
There were no changes made to the powertrain that consists of a new twin-turbocharged V8 gasoline unit pumping out 381 horses and 530Nm (391 lb-ft) of peak torque hooked up to an eight-speed automatic and an all-wheel drive system.
Hongqi, a subsidiary of China’s FAW Car Company, has not said when the car will enter production.
