Driving will never be the same again, as Hyundai introduced a new Virtual Reality Entertainment System (VRES) for its Tucson crossover.
Available only on April 1, when most things written on the internet shouldn’t be trusted, Hyundai’s VR system showcases the future and builds on the firm’s current head-up display technology, using an augmented reality windscreen and electrochromic glass in the rear windows and panoramic roof.
The VR system is said to provide accurate satellite navigation instruction and important information for the drivers, while passengers will be entertained and educated. The VRES is fully customizable and allows the download of bespoke apps from the company’s new app store, App: Real Feels. Once the data will be downloaded through the onboard connection, passengers will be able to access it through touch-sensitive windows, which become fully functioning interactive screens.
“With VRES we’re really changing the way people will feel about car journeys. With educational apps and entertainment at your fingertips you’ll never hear your passengers complain about a long journey again. Our ‘I Spy’ app is particularly good”, the Hyundai’s “Head of Future Technology Division“, Tu Morrow, said.
Hyundai encourages users to send their children through a time-traveling adventure with dinosaurs, in “Tyrannosaurus ix” or to take them to educational journeys through space. Available to order on the Tucson on Friday, April 1 only, the VR tech gives a whole new meaning to April Fool’s Day jokes.
