To sell or not to sell – that’s the question Mercedes’ execs are asking when it comes to the G500 4×4 and the US market.
Picking up where the six-wheeled G-Class left over, while leaving two of its wheels aside, the four-wheel rugged SUV is being considered for America, as Motor1 reports after speaking with the Mercedes General Manager of Product Planning, Bart Herring, who said that the company is “very close to a good decision“.
In case you forgot, the Mercedes-Benz G500 4×4 sits right under the range-topper G65 AMG, carrying a price tag of €226,100 in Germany, which equals to $256,200 at the current exchange rates. This means that it’s twice as expensive as the regular G500, with which it shares the 4.0-liter V8 twin-turbo petrol engine, producing 422 PS (416 HP) and 610 Nm (450 pound-feet) of torque.
Accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) takes 7.4 seconds, 1.5 seconds slower than the G500, but it compensates through its off-road capability, as it features a +299 mm (11.8 in) wider track over the series-production, adjustable damping with Sport Mode, permanent all-wheel drive, off-road reduction in the transfer case and three differentials that can be locked while on the move.
