This spy shot from one of our readers shows a Ferrari model we’ve never seen before; could it be the entry level, mid-engine Dino that the Italians have been working on, or is it something else? Let the speculation begin.
The car itself was spotted undisguised featuring a similar stance, but a decidedly different body, including the entire rear end and rear window line than Ferrari’s older 458 and its facelifted succesor, the 488, which is Maranello’s base mid-engine model right now. It’s hard to tell from this angle, but the car doesn’t seem to have any air ducts on the sides either.
We scooped Ferrari in recent months driving test-mules built around modified 458 bodies, which our spy shooters said made sounds more akin to the Ferrari-built V6 twin-turbo used in the Alfa Romeo Giulia QV than Maranello’s V8s (turbo or not).
This matches reports saying that the new model Ferrari is working on – the Dino or whatever else it is – will slot between the California and the 488 offering a 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 in two outputs, producing around 450 and close to 600 horsepower respectively.
Still, before we delve too far, allow us to repeat that we don’t know what we’re looking at yet – it could be anything from the rumored mid-engine Dino or the “entry-level GT” that a Ferrari official recently confirmed (though, those two may be one and the same) and a one-off coach-built 458/488, to a tuned model or perhaps even a special 488.
What do you think?
