Chevrolet has essentially pulled out of Europe, but the UK will still get the new 2016 Camaro, although in very limited quantities and only in left-hand drive.
Only one of the remaining Chevy dealerships in Britain has been authorized to sell the sixth generation Camaro, with Autocar magazine reporting that the allocation for 2016 is just 15 coupes that will arrive in September, and 3 convertibles that will be delivered the following month.
On-the-road prices start from £32,500 for the entry-level Camaro Coupe with a 275hp 2.0-liter turbocharged four paired to a standard 8-speed automatic, rising to of £37,000 for the 455hp 6.2-liter V8 model with a six-speed manual.
Options include a £1,460 eight-speed automatic transmission and £1,460 magnetic ride control suspension for the V8, a £1,890 convenience and lighting package for the 2.0L, and racing stripes for both models priced between £400 and £550.
It remains unknown if and how many Camaros will be distributed in the UK next year, but if you’re hell bent on getting an American muscle car and don’t mind looking beyond GM’s offerings, Ford’s new Mustang seems like the better choice.
Not only is the Mustang readily available in Britain, it’s also sold in right-hand drive form and at more affordable prices, with the 2.3L turbo four starting at £30,995 and the 5.0L V8 from £34,995, representing savings of around £1,500 and £2,000 respectively over Chevy’s pony car.
