Just hours after we caught a glimpse of a mystery Ferrari that we originally speculated may or may not be the rumored entry-level Dino sports car, a new set of images popped on the web raising new questions.
Found online by Zero2Turbo, these images reveal a similar, but not identical, front fascia to the 488 GTB, with modified L-shaped headlights and a vented hood, plus a reworked profile with different window line and air duct designs, while from the previous picture, we see that the rear has new panels as well, but it keeps the same positioning for the exhausts.
After going over these new pictures, it seems improbable that this is the Dino – at best, it could be a test mule. Another, perhaps more plausible explanation, is that, it’s Ferrari’s Special Projects (SP) division’s first 488 GTB-based model. The Special Projects arm handles Maranello’s one-off customizations creating unique cars for its clients – the SP FXX, SP America, SP F12 TRS are just but a few of their recent builds.
Regarding the rumored Dino, previous reports indicate that it will come with a 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 in two versions, with 450 HP and 600 HP, paired to a seven-speed dual clutch gearbox – manuals sprouting out of sparkling chrome gates are definitely dead and buried in Maranello’s history books. The mode-changing Manettino will also feature, as will the steering wheel-mounted controls for almost every system. And one last thing: it will bear a lower price tag than the 488 GTB, but don’t expect the Dino to be that much cheaper as to be labeled affordable. Ferrari will increase its production, yet it knows it can sell each and every one of them, so it will charge them accordingly and not mess with its exclusive status.
