Already one of the fastest-accelerating cars in the world, the Porsche 918 Spyder isn’t shying away from dominating the drag strip.
If we’re talking about non-modified cars, completing a 1/4 mile run in under 10 seconds is a very impressive achievement, one that usually gets attributed to models such as the Veyron Super Sport, LaFerrari or McLaren P1.
The good news for Porsche fans is that the all-wheel driven 918 Spyder is just as fast as any of those cars and has now completed the 1/4 mile in 9.7 seconds at 145 mph (233.3 km/h). There are other hypercars that can cover the same distance in approximately the same amount of time (Koenigsegg Agera R comes to mind), but nothing else further down the pecking order.
This means that if your car is ‘super’ instead of ‘hyper’, you’re not going to hit those times without any modifications. For example, the fastest supercars in the world (McLaren 650S, Aventador, 911 Turbo S, 488, R8 V10 Plus) all hover at around 10.5 seconds when attempting a 1/4 mile run.
All in all, if you needed more proof that the 918 Spyder is one of the world’s fastest cars, this video should give you some peace of mind.
