Takata Airbag Modules Cause Another Honda Accord Recall

Honda’s latest safety campaign covers certain Accord units, from the 2004-2007 MY, in the United States.

According to the manufacturer, the original airbag modules, in the affected vehicles, were designed for installation into cars sold in South America, but were supplied to the United States by mistake and are now in 11,602 cars.

The issue was discovered by Honda dealers through a process that involved verification of vehicles included in the Takata front passenger airbag inflator recall. The incorrect airbag modules do not comply with the federal regulations in the United States, but it seems that no crashes or injuries have been reported so far.

Honda will start notifying owners of the affected Accords in early May. Local dealers will replace the airbag modules, if necessary, free of charge. However, dealers will have to verify that the removed airbag inflator is part of the recall before replacing it, as units that have been already repaired in the Takata campaign will not be included in this new recall.
