Mazda3′ sedan and hatchback model range has been broadened by the addition of a new powertrain in European markets.
Meeting the Euro 6 emission standards, the turbodiesel has 1.5 liters in displacement and features a low compression ratio of 14.8:1, benefits from a bespoke variable turbine geometry turbocharger and produces 105 PS (103 HP).
When equipped with the latest mill, the Mazda3 returns an average of 3.8 lt/100 km (61.9 mpg US) and emits just 99 g/km of CO2. Moreover, the engine noise and vibration have been reduced with the new Natural Sound Smoother technology.
The engine has been taken from the Mazda2 and CX-3 SUV and was already available in the United Kingdom, where it was launched last November on the compact car, priced from £18,895 ($27,333).
Enhancing the 2016 model range furthermore is a new special hatchback version, which rides on a new set of 18-inch dark alloy wheels and is equipped with an Aero kit, on right-hand drive versions only, available as an accessory on the normal model. Black half leather/suede upholstery is found in the cabin, along with a DAB radio, rear camera and passenger seat lifter, fitted as standard on all higher grades.
These features join the 7-inch color touchscreen display on the regular Mazda3 and passive safety features that include Forward Obstruction Warning, Lane Departure Warning, Mazda Radar Cruise Control and Smart City Brake Support, offered as standard or optional depending on the selected trim.
