When BMW launched the i8 in 2014, they excluded the sports car from their Individual paint program, but now, they’re making it possible to order the hybrid model with a number of special colors, at least in the UK. The German carmaker didn’t say if and when they’re going to offer these special color options in other markets.
BMW’s new Individual color collection will be priced upwards of £5,495 in this UK where it will include Java Green, Speed Yellow, Solar Orange, Twilight Purple Pearl, Frozen Grey, Frozen Black, San Marino Blue and Grigio Telesto Pearl, among others.
Customers will be able to choose from a variety of metallic, non-metallic and Xirallic finishes, which use a mixture of synthetic mica or aluminum flakes that ends up producing what BMW calls “scintillating effects.”
Those looking for a bit less sparkle can opt for a matte finish, which has a unique shimmer that helps underline the sculpted body of the i8.
BMW announcing this new Individual paint program for the i8 is boosted by early-orders success for the Protonic Red limited edition model, which is exclusive to the UK.
“The BMW i8 embodies the accomplishment vision of a modern and sustainable sports car,” said Richard Hudson, BMW UK sales director. “The new paintwork colors not only complement the BMW I8s emotive styling and design, they also work harmoniously with the BMW i brand and provide customers with exclusive personalized options.”
BMW is currently selling the i8 for £104,540 OTR in the UK.
