If you are looking for a smart and rapid four-door German saloon, then you probably can’t go wrong with this 2001 S8 offered for sale on eBay.
This is Audi’s first flagship to ever wear the ‘S’ moniker, a very cool autobahn warrior and only one of the 561 models that were officially imported in the US market.
Featuring an innovative for its era aluminum structure and bodywork, the first Audi S8 was considered a very advanced car which sadly didn’t reach the same levels of popularity with the Mercedes S-Class and BMW 7-Series. The car also starred in the Ronin movie, giving us one of the most incredible car chase scenes ever, raising the S8’s status in sub-zero levels of coolness.
Powered by a 4.2-litre V8 which produced 360hp and 320lb ft of torque, the S8 is capable of a 0-60mph in 5.4 seconds and a limited top speed of 155mph. This one is said to run very well and to be properly maintained, with the seller claiming no warning lights and detailing some recent maintenance work, including the timing belt and water pump, tensioner, a control arm, alignment, new brakes and a rebuilt transmission.
The bodywork has small scuffs and scratches in various places and one of its headlights’ washer jets missing from the front bumper. The luxurious cabin looks in good condition, with no visible rips or tears on the upholstery.
These cars can become a financial nightmare really quick if not maintained regularly and properly but this example looks like it has solved all the main issues known to cause trouble in this generation.
The car is listed on eBay now and if the reserve is met, someone is not only going to be the proud owner of Audi’s first large sport sedan but also holding the keys to one of the coolest chase cars in movie history.
