With 6,506 applicants looking to own the 500 initial all-new Ford GT models, a lot of people are going to be undoubtedly disappointed.
The all-new GT is a tremendously expensive car at £300,000. Not only are most people going to be stuck outside the “shortlist” when it comes to this car, but they’ll likely fall short of owning an original GT40 as well, unless they’ve got millions stashed away somewhere.
So unless you’re super-duper rich, you might be interested to hear what Le Mans Coupes Ltd can do for you, starting with the Superformance GT40, available for a much more affordable price, at £102,500 plus VAT.
In return for your money, you get a replica so accurate that 70% of the components are interchangeable with their original counterparts. They also come complete with P/2000 Series chassis numbers, recognized by the Shelby American World Registry.
Each car is hand-build in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, and offered by both left and right-hand drive, for either the MKI or MKII model.
Powertrain choices vary from 5.6 to 7.0-liters and from 420 to 560 BHP, central or sill-mounted gearbox and a ZF RBT or Quaife transaxle. If you opt for the faster versions, you’ll be able to hit 60 mph (96 km/h) in 3.7 seconds and max out at a very impressive 205 mph (329 km/h).
“Interest in the GT40 has grown steadily since the model’s 50th anniversary celebration of two years ago, and has inevitably been further heightened by the launch of the new GT and Ford’s exciting decision to give it its Le Mans debut exactly 50 years after first beating Ferrari there,” said Le Mans Coupes exec Nigel Hulme.
