Known for their flamboyant takes on car interiors, Carlex Design have taken on a different type of project lately, involving one of the world’s most iconic muscle cars.
This is a mid-60’s Ford Mustang Fastback and pretty soon it’s going to get not just a new look, but an improved interior that stays true to its heritage. The steering wheel images below represent a finished product and as you can see, Carlex went with a carbon fiber grip and 3 hole bolt pattern.
The first-generation Mustang Fastback dates back to August 1964 and unlike previous versions, featured a rear bench seat for increased interior volume plus a few design lines that reminded people of the Corvette Sting Ray and the Jaguar E-Type.
Now, it remains one of the world’s most recognizable cars and knowing Carlex Design, they’re going to seriously increase your chances of getting more comfortable behind the wheel.
We have seen similar projects from them, involving classic models. The first that would come to mind is this G463 Mercedes-Benz G-Class, a car that’s 26 years old to date – not as old as the Mustang but the way Carlex went about dressing the dashboard in leather might suggest a pattern when it comes to these types of designs.
Of course, if you’ve ever seen the dashboard of a mid-60’s Mustang you’ll know that there isn’t much to cover up in terms of surface area, which means they’ll need to get a little bit creative.
