If the 2016 MKX was a collectible, five examples of the SUV on which Lincoln’s employees mistakenly used a trim cover originally intended for Chinese export models, none of their owners would have an incentive to get them fixed.
But the MKX isn’t a collectible and we’re willing to bet that it never will be, so now, it’s more of a blunder on Ford’s behalf and a hassle for owners of the affected models that are limited to five 2016 Lincoln MKX vehicles built at Oakville Assembly, between September 24-25, 2015, all of which are located in the United States.
“Ford is issuing a safety compliance recall for five 2016 Lincoln MKX vehicles to replace the seatback trim cover for the left-side second-row seat and to install a tether cover bezel,” said the automaker in a statement. “In certain vehicles, the trim cover used for the second row was intended for the China market. As a result, the center tether anchor is covered by the trim cover.”
The Blue Oval added that it’s not aware of any accidents or injuries associated with this issue, which it plans to fix by replacing the seatback trim cover for the left-side second-row seat and mounting a tether cover bezel at no cost to customers.
