Set to go on sale over the next few months, the workhorse has received a new engine and subtle revisions for the 2017MY.
The 2017 Volkswagen Amarok is now available with a 3.0-liter V6 diesel in three states of tune: 163 PS (161 HP), 204 PS (201 HP) and 224 PS (221 HP).
Lower versions will be equipped with rear-wheel drive and customers will get to choose between a manual or an 8-speed automatic gearbox. At an extra cost, Volkswagen will throw in the 4Motion all-wheel drive system, lighter Servotronic steering and larger brake discs.
The facelifted model features tweaked headlights, updated front bumper and larger alloy wheels, while the interior has a redesigned dashboard and new ergonomic seats.
A series of covers, hardtops, styling bars and coating are available for the cargo compartment, which is capable of carrying a Euro-pallet loaded sideways. Maximum payload capacity stands at more than 1 ton (2,205 lbs), while its towing capability has increased from the previous 3.2 tonnes (7,055 lbs) to 3.5 tonnes (7,716 lbs).
Volkswagen will launch the updated Amarok at the end of September, with pricing to be announced close to that date. The range-topper version will be the first one offered, while less powerful models will join the range later on.
