Even though this 2018 Chevrolet Jolt doesn’t actually exist, one man had the vision to create an environment for it in which you could easily be fooled that it does.
Confusing? Just click here to visit the Jolt’s dedicated website and you’ll find pretty much everything you need to know about an electric car that would apparently cost as little as $30,000 if you could actually buy it.
The man behind this project is Matt Teske, a branding & marketing consultant who spent over 17 years working in the automotive industry, and whose latest idea is this – an affordable all-electric sports car with an estimated range of 230 miles per charge (370 km).
It comes with a lithium-ion battery, CCS DC fast charging, a 10.2″ central display, 4G LTE Wi-Fi, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, plus a wide array of clever safety systems such as Forward Safety Awareness, Side Blind Zone Alert, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, 10 airbags, Automatic Crash Response and OnStar Advisors.
In terms of performance, the Jolt would get from 0 to 60 mph (96 km/h) in 5.0 seconds before maxing out at 140 mph (225 km/h). It would also offer a hefty 422 lb-ft (572 Nm) of torque, if it was real that is.
During an interview with Road & Track, Teske said that in his opinion “electrics are the way of the future, and there’s clearly a market for [a sports car like the Jolt].”
“I just decided to do it on my own…consumers vote with their feet, if they see something they like, that’s what gets the most attention.”
In the ‘About Jolt’ section on the website, Teske also directly addresses Chevrolet, saying “you’ll be happy to know that I am one of your customers. I drive a 2016 Chevrolet Volt and my wife drives a 2015 Chevrolet Spark EV. That said, I am also a Tesla Model 3 reservation holder. But if you were to build this idea of mine, the Jolt EV, and develop en EV savvy dealership network that includes DC fast charging, you will get my business instead.”
So what do you guys think about his work?
