Ever since Ferrari debuted its fastest and most powerful road-legal supercar, the LaFerrari, there have been rumors about an open-top version.
Three years later, they have turned out to be true as an LaFerrari Spider is indeed coming our way.
This confirmation came directly from the automaker’s new CEO, Sergio Marchionne, in an interview with AutomobileMagazine, when he was asked about a less extreme version of the hypercar dubbed the “LaFerrarina”.
“The only future product connected to LaFerrari is the Spider“, said Marchionne, adding that there is “no secret, since potential customers have already been approached.”
The Ferrari LaFerrari Spider will be identical to the coupe, sans the fixed top of course, though chassis reinforcements to make up for any loss in structural rigidity might add some weight.
While things seem to be clear in terms of the drop-top hybrid, the same cannot be said on the V6-powered Dino, as Ferrari’s plans about its new entry level supercar remain unclear. Asked on where it will positioned, how much it will cost and how it will relate to the next 488 GTB, Marchionne said:”We haven’t found answers to those questions yet.”
Until they do, we’ll have to make do with the LaFerrari Spider, then – and, most likely, the 488 Speciale that is bound to appear in the not so distant future.
